The A-Team

The A-Team“When you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire… The A-Team.” Or maybe you can hire a bunch of guys to replace The A-Team… maybe make a movie and call it “The A-Team” and hope to cash in on a new generation that don’t even remember the TV show?

The casting of the new A-Team is probably the best part of this film, although I “pity the fool” who tries to follow in the footsteps of Mr. T as B.A. Baracus. I mean Mr. T just IS that character – no acting involved. The role was written for him after all. UFC star “Rampage” Jackson looks the part though, but Mr. T still looks the same so why not just ask him?

ateampic1As for special-ops leaders, Liam Neeson is your man and fills the role of pack leader Hannibal nicely. I don’t think I need to explain why Bradley Cooper is the perfect choice for Face, although he goes shirtless enough that the nickname “Pecs” would have been equally fitting. And finally there is the insane pilot Murdock, played by Sharlto Copley (District 9). He proves he’s not just a one hit wonder since he steals scenes from all the big name talent here with his off-the-wall antics.

Liam Neeson as HannibalThis rag-tag group of Iraq war vets are sent to prison for “a crime they didn’t commit” and now they want to clear their names (the story really isn’t very important). As a means to an end they take on some pretty crazy missions – missions that include skydiving a tank out of an airplane and riding it to the ground! No doubt this film has some crazy action scenes.

Bad story telling is at least offset by some pretty funny dialogue and fans of the TV show or action movie lovers probably won’t be disappointed. Not an Oscar contender, but audiences will get what they expect.

Directed by Joe Carnahan, starring Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper.

Rampage Jackson cancelled a major UFC fight to star in this film.

The original TV series ran for 5 seasons, from 1983-1987.
