Date Night
Monday, 12 April 2010 12:24
datenightI had a date night with Steve Carell and he sure knows how to show a girl a good time. He’s rich, charming, and let’s just say he’s no 40 year old virgin when it comes to pushing my laughter buttons. The reigning king of laugh-out-loud television on The Office, teams up with America’s comedy sweetheart Tina Fey for Date Night.

Both Carell and Fey are incredibly gifted comedians, and equally good actors. They have such natural on-screen presence and intuitively know what to do with a scene to make it great – not a rippling bicep or surgically enhanced breast in sight (although Fey looks pretty fantastic in a sassy stripper costume). Putting these two together seems only natural, a brilliant match and one that shows an amazing amount of chemistry. These two are obviously enjoying themselves!

Fey and CarellThey play the Foster’s, a bored married couple looking for a little excitement. Changing it up from the regular chicken-and-rib joint, they get more than they bargained for after stealing reservations at a swanky Manhattan restaurant. A case of mistaken identity has them fleeing for their lives around New York City to escape a couple of thugs.

A jealous Steve Carell, with Tina Fey and Mark WahlbergThey run in to a series of equally hilarious supporting characters including Mark Walhberg in all his underwear model glory. It is hilarious to watch Steve Carell, whose furry torso was so memorably waxed in The Fourty Year-Old Virgin, as he squirms with jealousy over Wahlberg’s rock-hard abs! James Franco and Mila Kunis run away with their scene as the passionate but trashy couple who should be the ones on the run.

The story line is nothing really special, but a solid script and the combined chemistry of Carell and Fey turns it into a very memorable laugh-fest. I would highly recommend taking your own date to see this sweet, funny movie.

Sidebar Notes:

Steve Carell provided the voice for Gary, half of The Ambiguously Gay Duo animated short on Saturday Night Live.

Tina Fey has repeatedly been listed as one of People Magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful People, and also on Maxim Magazine’s Hot 100 List.
