The Final Destination 3D

thefinaldestinationposterThe craziest thing happened on my way to the theatre to see The Final Destination! As I was driving to pick up my friend I decided to give her a quick call on my cell phone, just to let her know I would be arriving soon. I pulled the phone out of my purse but it snagged on a thread fell out of my hand onto the floor of the car. I was at a red light so I leaned over to pick it up but my foot slipped off the break, jolting my car forward just enough that it tapped the bumper of the car ahead of me before I could stop it. The driver got so pissed that he jumped out of the car to give me a piece of his mind, but as he was standing there ranting a gas truck plows him down right beside me! The truck veered off the road right into an electrical pole causing sparks to fly and then it burst into flames engulfing all of the cars on the street! People were running everywhere, catching fire, getting trampled! I saw a child without her mother crying, so I leaped from my car to help her but as I ran toward her the gas truck tipped over and crushed me to death!!!

Ok… So none of that really happened… yet. But it COULD have if I was starring in The Final Destination 3D. Yes, that’s right! Now you can experience traumatic and wildly unbelievable acts of bloody annihilation IN 3D with blood practically flying off the screen into your face!

thefinaldestinationpic1The movie stars newcomer Bobby Campo as Nick… Oh, who am I kidding? Does anyone really care who the actors are since practically all of them meet their maker before the end of the film. No big loss. If I was as bad an actor as the people in this movie, I think I would end the pain and suffering myself anyway.

All you really need to know is that young Nick gets a premonition that everyone around him is going to die in a freak accident. It creeps him out, so he convinces his friends to leave just before the place goes up in flames and dozens of people are killed. After that Death himself seems to be singling out survivors of the accident. People start dying, violently, in the order that Nick saw in his visions and he has to try to save them in order to cheat death and stop the pattern.

thefinaldestinationpic2Of course, can anyone ever really cheat death? Apparently the Final Destination franchise can since it keeps coming back for more. This is the fourth installment of the series and if you’ve seen one you’ve seen ‘em all. But I have to admit there are still some pretty unique kill scenes. One of the most cringe-worthy moments involves a swimming pool drain sucking out more than just the pool water. Another intense scene makes me think I’ll never enjoy a drive-through car wash the way I used to.

The 3D effects are really well utilized and look fantastic. There were actually a few times that my eyes twitched when a shard of glass or some object flew toward the camera. Blood flies in your face and you can practically reach out and sift through the raw meat of hacked up bodies. I can’t imagine the amount of hamburger and ketchup they went through to make this film. 3D and horror movies have always been a good combination, even when they are just cheesy.

So, the movie was absolutely terrible, but I had a good time!
